The Imagery in the Poetry of Bardo Sindhi
Abstract
This paper examines the esthetic and functional role of imagery (Manzar Nigari) in the poetry of Bardo Sindhi, a prominent figure in modern Sindhi literature. Imagery is a significant literary device that enhances poetic expression by creating vivid sensory and emotional experiences for readers. The study explores how Bardo Sindhi uses imagery to depict natural, emotional, and cultural landscapes in his poetry. The main objective of this research is to analyze the types of imagery found in his poetic forms, such as Bait, Doha, Kafi, and Wai, and to evaluate their aesthetic and thematic significance. A qualitative research methodology based on textual analysis has been applied to selected poems. The findings reveal that Bardo Sindhi’s poetry is deeply rooted in rural and natural imagery, reflecting love, longing, cultural identity, and environmental realities of Sindh. The study concludes that imagery in his poetry strengthens cultural expression and enhances the artistic and emotional depth of Sindhi literature.
